Matthew Purushotham joined McGillivary Steele Elkin LLP to represent unions and individual workers and to create more favorable law for workers nationwide. He specializes in litigating on behalf of employees in cases brought under the Fair Labor Standards Act and in arbitrations of disciplinary actions.
Since joining the firm in August 2016, Matthew has had significant experience representing union members who were retaliated against as a result of their union activities. He also provides guidance to union clients on negotiating collective bargaining agreements and provides general legal advice regarding all manner of labor relations and employment issues.
Before joining the firm, Matthew worked as a law clerk at the Employment Law Group, P.C. representing employees in employment discrimination and whistleblower cases, including cases filed under the Whistleblower Protection Act and the False Claims Act.
While Matthew attended the Georgetown University Law Center, he served as a Senior Staff member on the Georgetown International Environmental Law Review. He then obtained a master’s degree in Public Affairs Journalism from American University in 2005. He graduated from Trinity College in 2001, with a bachelor’s degree in International Studies.
