Sarah Block joined McGillivary Steele Elkin LLP in June 2015 with the aim of helping workers and unions navigate the complex legal system and providing workers with greater access to legal representation. She represents unions and employees in a variety of different types of cases as well as provides general legal advice.

While studying at The George Washington University Law School, Sarah served as the Senior Articles Editor of The Federal Circuit Bar Journal. She also interned with Farmworker Justice, which inspired and informed her published law journal article highlighting the systematic challenges faced by female farmworkers in the United States in reporting workplace sexual harassment and abuse. In addition, Sarah served as a student attorney in The George Washington University Law School’s Public Justice Advocacy Clinic, representing low-income employees in wage & hour disputes, and as a law clerk to administrative law judges in the Federal Aviation Administration’s Office of Dispute Resolution for Acquisition.

Among other things, Sarah’s experience working with Farmworker Justice encouraged her to become an active member in the Legal Network for Gender Equity and the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund.

Sarah holds a J.D. from The George Washington University Law School as well as a B.A. in History (with honors) and Spanish, summa cum laude, from Bucknell University. While at Bucknell University, Sarah’s honors thesis research focused on the Boston Police Strike of 1919 and the rise of public safety unions in the early twentieth century.

Prior to joining the firm, Sarah worked as an Associate at a small firm in Washington, DC representing transportation unions. Sarah is also the winner of the Board of Contract Appeals Bar Association’s 2014 Young Attorney Writing Award.

Sarah’s path to becoming a labor and employment lawyer was greatly influenced by her grandparents, all of whom were active union members. Sarah believes it is her responsibility to honor and give back to those who paved her way to becoming a lawyer by fighting on behalf of workers nationwide to protect and enforce essential labor and employment rights.
