Gregory McGillivary, the managing partner at McGillivary Steele Elkin LLP, has been awarded the recognition of ‘Best Lawyer for Employment Law – Individuals’ for the 2021 Best Lawyer rankings.
To be awarded this recognition, Best Lawyers conducts “exhaustive peer review surveys in which tens of thousands of leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their professional peers.” Their methodology is “designed to capture, as accurately as possible, the consensus opinion of leading lawyers about the professional abilities of their colleagues within the same geographical area and legal practice area”. They employ a “sophisticated, conscientious, rational, and transparent survey process designed to elicit meaningful and substantive evaluations of the quality of legal services”.
The Best Lawyers directory is “the oldest and most respected peer review publication in the legal profession,” consisting of 78 countries around the world with over 11 million evaluations of lawyers by others in the profession.
Greg was nominated and admitted as a Best Lawyer in August 2020 for the 2021 Best Lawyer rankings and directory. Throughout Greg’s 30+ years of practice, he has become an expert in litigating, arbitrating, settling, and most importantly, winning cases on behalf of unions and individual workers who have been wrongly denied pay and benefits. He is especially sought after for cases involving violations of minimum wage, overtime pay, shift differentials, hazardous duty pay requirements, and improper pay rates.
Along with his expertise in representing workers for individual matters, Greg has successfully represented large class and collective action cases with thousands of plaintiffs in multi-million-dollar settlements to recover wages for workers and union members who have not been properly compensated for their work.
Outside of his typical work, Greg serves on the Board of Directors of Freedom Now, a human rights organization that fights for victims of human rights violations around the world, and was the co-recipient of the American Bar Association’s 2015 Frances Perkins Public Service Award for pro bono work on behalf of three labor activists in Vietnam who were unjustly and arbitrarily imprisoned by the Vietnamese Government. He is also a fellow to the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, an organization honoring outstanding performance exemplifying integrity, dedication, and excellence.
