Represented by McGillivary Steele Elkin LLP, on June 21, 2022, IAFF Local 1366 President Scott Dix filed a federal lawsuit against the City of Cedar Falls and City officials asserting that the City violated his First Amendment right to free speech and association. President Dix filed the suit after he was terminated for voicing criticisms, including filing a lawsuit about the lax standards required for the Public Safety Supervisors, and general criticisms of the PSO model, which uses cross-trained police officers and firefighters. President Dix is asking the court to put him back in his job as a fire fighter, and award damages for compensation and emotional distress as well as punitive damages.
