Tesla Data Breach Investigation

On May 10, 2023, Tesla was informed by a foreign media outlet, Handelsblatt, that two former Tesla employees had misappropriated information from the company and provided it to Handelsblatt. Tesla began investigating.

On May 10, 2023, Tesla was informed by a foreign media outlet, Handelsblatt, that two former Tesla employees had misappropriated information from the company and provided it to Handelsblatt. Tesla began investigating. Tesla finished its investigation and determined that its employees’ personal information may have been compromised, including:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Contact information (such as address, phone number, and/or email address)

Tesla notified the current and former employees whose personal information was compromised on August 18. 2023. If you’ve received notice from Tesla that your personal information was compromised, consider doing certain things to protect your personal information:

  • Change your passwords and security information for online accounts;
  • Review your account statements for unauthorized activity;
  • Monitor your credit reports for signs of identity theft;
  • Contact the credit bureaus to request a temporary fraud alert;
  • Carefully review the notice you received from Tesla;
  • Keep a copy of the notice for your records; and
  • Enroll in the identity theft and credit monitoring services offered in the notice from Tesla.
